Nail Care

Nails can be normal and easily managed or thick and require use of a burr to reduce thickness. They can be ingrown or involuted and require the skills of your Podiatrist. They can be fungal and we offer a treatment called Fenestration for this.

Regular Foot Care

In your appointment corns and callous (hard skin) is removed, nails are cut and filed. Any dry skin can be removed leaving your feet in tip top condition.

This appointment is suitable for all new patients and ingrown toe nails.

Orthotics

A musculoskeletal assessment is carried out before moving forward with orthotics.  It is also likely that exercises will be a big part of the treatment and these will be issued at the appointment.

These treatments will be discussed at your initial assessment and you can book here for an advice appointment.

Varruca advice & treatment

We use caustics and needling to treat verrucae. You will be assessed for your suitability for the treatment and this will be discussed before treatment commences.

Verruca needling is a minor surgical procedure performed under local anaesthetic. The process involves puncturing the verruca multiple times with a fine needle. This stimulates the body’s immune system to recognise and fight the viral infection causing the verruca. By breaking down the viral particles and pushing them deeper into the skin layers, the immune system can better target and eliminate the verruca from within.

The procedure is typically quick, with minimal discomfort, and most patients can resume their normal activities shortly after. One of the key benefits of verruca needling is that it often requires just one session, making it a convenient option for those who have struggled with long-term verrucae.

If you have a persistent verruca that hasn’t responded to other treatments, verruca needling might be the solution you’ve been looking for.

Callus Removal

Callus is thickened skin in areas of pressure on your feet.  It can develop anywhere on the sole on top of your feet. It can be painful and create fissures and will be treated at your appointments.

Corn Removal

Corns are concentrated areas of callus that sit deep in the skin and can feel like you are walking on a stone that you cannot move.

They can develop anywhere on the foot, both sole and top, especially around the toes. These are easy to remove and will be treated at your appointment.

Cosmetic Nail Reconstruction

Do you have a nail that has become crumbly or distorted?

Some nails can be reconstructed using gel polish and careful reconstruction to make it appear the same as your other nails.

Dry needling for muscle pain

Dry needling is used as an adjunct to exercise and orthotics and is a way to release tight trigger point muscles.  Acupuncture needles are used for this and can give instant relief but normally a group of 3-6 sessions are required for this to be completely effective.

Ingrown toenails

Ingrown nails are painful and usually come with infection. They are seen in all age groups and are not fussy whether you are male or female. The treatment for this involves nail surgery.

Nail surgery is carried out under local anaesthesia, which is injected into the affected toe. The nail is removed and a chemical called phenol is applied to the area. This is used to prevent nail regrowth with a 90% success rate. The nail can have a partial nail removal which only take the side of the nail away or a total nail avulsion which removes the whole nail. This will be discussed at your initial appointment.

Legally, you have to have an initial assessment and your surgery will be carried out after 24 hours.

Taping

Kinesiology taping is used for muscular pain in active people. It is a movement tape and is used by athletes in all disciplines but can be used for mere mortals (like myself) also.

We also use zinc oxide taping for restricting movement but allowing the continuation of activity.

Diabetic & Vascular assessments

In this appointment your pulses and the feeling in your feet is assessed.

This is an important part of your diabetic care and is used as a guide for your future foot care needs.
